Mouth Cancer – know the signs and symptoms

Mouth Cancer Action Month is in full swing and so we’ll be taking a look at the signs and symptoms of mouth cancer.  Last year 8772 people in the UK were diagnosed with mouth cancer, this means that one person in the UK is diagnosed every hour. Mouth cancer is the 15^th most common cancer in the UK and over 2000 people lose their life to mouth cancer every year. Mouth Cancer can strike in several areas of the mouth, including lips, tongue, gums and cheeks so it’s important to know the signs and symptoms to look out for when you are performing your every day dental care regime. Below is a list of things to look out for.  If you see any one of these signs then please contact us and make an urgent appointment with a dentist so we can carry out an examination

• • Ulcers which do not heal within three weeks

• • Red and white patches in the mouth

• • Lumps or swellings in the mouth or head and neck area
