Be safe and legal, when it comes to teeth whitening
A recent report discovered some teeth whitening kits sold online contained dangerous levels of bleaching chemicals that can burn your gums and even cause tooth loss. The Which consumer group study showed that the worst of the kits available online had more than 300 times the recommended amount of hydrogen peroxide! Of the 36 products tested by Which, 20 products had illegal levels of bleach. We’re delighted that the outlets selling these products (including Amazon, Ebay and AliExpress) have removed these illegal products from their product list but we’re concerned that they will continue to be on sale on other sites. The legal limits set on whitening products you can buy over the counter to use at home are often very low which means that they may not work to improve the appearance of your smile at all, unless you have severe discolouration. The only way to be sure of a safe AND effective whitening treatment is to have the treatment under the guidance of a registered dental professional, such as a dentist.
